Disaster Assistance Bill passes Congress

TIFTON, Ga. — Georgia peanut farmers applaud the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the long-awaited disaster aid bill by 354-58 yesterday. The passage comes eight months after Hurricane Michael devastated portions of Georgia, Alabama and Florida. The passage has come at a critical time as farmers are in the midst of planting their 2019 crops.

White House includes peanut growers in Tariff Mitigation Plan

TIFTON, Ga. — Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced its plan for tariff mitigation following the unjustified retaliatory tariffs imposed by China. Standing alongside President Trump in the Roosevelt Room of the White House was Donald Chase. Donald is a peanut farmer from Oglethorpe, Georgia and serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Peanut Commission.

Southern Peanut Farmers Federation supports Administration's Section 232 Tariff Removal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Trade Representative has announced "an agreement with Canada and Mexico to remove the Section 232 tariffs for steel and aluminum imports from those countries and for the removal of all retaliatory tariffs imposed on American goods by those countries."

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission plans to host a kickoff to summer Peanut Palooza on Friday, May 24, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at the Georgia Peanut Commission office in Tifton. Georgia Peanut Commission encourages farmers to vote yes in National Peanut Board referendum

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission encourages all peanut farmers to vote yes in support the continuance of the Peanut Promotion, Research and Information Order, which authorizes the National Peanut Board. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is conducting the referendum from April 15 through May 3, 2019.

Georgia Peanut Commission increases funding for research projects in 2019

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) board of directors has approved $653,901 in research project funding for the 2019-20 research budget year. This action was taken during the commission’s March board meeting. The research projects approved include 35 project proposals submitted from the University of Georgia, USDA Agricultural Research Service and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Celebrate March - National Peanut Month

TIFTON, Ga. — March is National Peanut Month, a time to celebrate one of America’s favorite foods! The Georgia peanut industry kicked off the celebration today by hosting the 2019 Georgia PB&J Day at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia. During the event, the Georgia Peanut Commission and Peanut Proud donated 14,400 jars of peanut butter to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission will hold the annual Research Report Day, Feb. 6, 2019, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory (NESPAL), located on the University of Georgia Tifton campus at 2360 Rainwater Road, Tifton, Georgia 31793. The event provides growers and industry representatives an opportunity to hear the latest reports and newest information available on peanut research projects funded by GPC in 2018.

Georgia Peanut Commission board members renominated

TIFTON, Ga. — Three Georgia Peanut Commission board members were renominated without opposition to the Georgia Peanut Commission board of directors at nomination meetings held on Dec. 10, 2018. The Georgia Farm Bureau Federation conducted the nomination meetings for the commission’s districts two, four and five.
