41st annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show set for Jan. 19, 2017, in Tiftont

TIFTON, Ga. — Make plans to attend the 41st annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show and Conference scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia. The one-day show is free and open to all farmers and industry representatives to attend.

Make a difference with peanut butter at Sunbelt Ag Expo

TIFTON, Ga. — Peanut Proud and the Georgia Peanut Commission are partnering during the Sunbelt Ag Expo, Oct. 18-20 in Moultrie, Georgia, to collect $1 donations to be used for the purchase of peanut butter for humanitarian efforts. Any and all money collected at the event will be used to purchase Peanut Proud peanut butter for delivery to local food banks.

Georgia Peanut Commission gearing up for peanut bank week Oct. 17-21, 2016

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission and the Georgia Bankers Association join forces Oct. 17-21, 2016, in an effort to promote Georgia’s peanut industry during the 40th annual Georgia Peanut Bank Week. Local banks and financial institutions across the state will honor Georgia’s peanut farmers and their contribution made to the state and local economies during one of the biggest times of the year: peanut harvest.

Georgia peanut farmers applaud revision of Seg. 2 peanuts by Peanut Standards Board

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission and the Georgia Farm Bureau applaud the efforts today of the Peanut Standards Board which voted to raise the grading score used to classify farmer stock peanuts as SEG 2’s from 2.49 percent to 3.49 percent. This effort will benefit American peanut farmers who have been affected by having their crop graded as Segregation 2.

M&M Mars selects new limited edition flavor

TIFTON, Ga. — For the first time in 75 years, Mars Chocolate North America allowed fans the opportunity to choose the next M&M’s Peanut flavor. The peanut chocolate candies were voted on in three different flavors including: Chili Nut, which combined a sweet and spicy flavor; Honey Nut, a mouth-watering taste of honey-flavored peanuts covered in milk chocolate; and Coffee Nut, which tasted as delicious as they smelled.

Applications are now being accepted for Peanut Leadership Academy Class X

TIFTON, Ga. — Applications are now being accepted for Class X of the Peanut Leadership Academy. To be eligible for participation, candidates must derive their primary livelihood from farming and currently produce peanuts, make a commitment to the program and agree to attend all sessions except in times of illness or a family emergency, be between the ages of 30 and 45 (preferred, but not required) and provide a completed application.

Georgia Peanut Commission encourages peanut consumption at school nutrition meeting

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission attended the Georgia School Nutrition Association’s annual meeting April 14-16 in Savannah, Georgia, to educate nutrition personnel about peanuts and peanut butter and promote consumption in schools across the state. During the three day meeting, school nutrition professionals attended educational seminars, visited with food service industry representatives and received recognition for outstanding performance at their respective schools.

Georgia Peanut Commission increases funding for research projects in 2016

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) board of directors has approved $423,036 in research project funding for the 2016-17 research budget year. This action was taken during the commission’s March board meeting. The research projects approved include 30 project proposals submitted from the University of Georgia and USDA Agricultural Research Service. .

Georgia PB&J Day set for Wednesday at State Capitol

TIFTON, Ga. — March is National Peanut Month, a time to celebrate one of America’s favorite foods! The Georgia peanut industry plans to celebrate by hosting the 2016 Georgia PB&J Day at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia. The event kicks off Wednesday morning March 16, 2016, and will be held in the south wing of the Capitol from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The peanut industry will have plenty of PB&J’s, grilled PB&J’s, country-fried peanuts, boiled peanuts and more.
