Georgia Peanut Commission teams up with banks to promote peanuts October 14-18, 2013
Released: Sept. 30, 2013

TIFTON, Ga. —The Georgia Peanut Commission and the Georgia Bankers Association join forces Oct. 14-18, 2013, in an effort to promote Georgia’s peanut industry during its 37th annual Georgia Peanut Bank Week. Local banks and financial institutions all across the state of Georgia will honor Georgia’s peanut farmers and their contribution made to the state and local economies during one of the biggest times of the year: peanut harvest.

This year’s theme, “Bank on Peanuts,” will showcase the importance of peanuts, Georgia’s official state crop, to Georgia’s growing economy. It will also show the close tie between peanut farmers and financial institutions and the importance of their relationship. Georgia’s peanut farmers contribute approximately $2 billion annually to the state and local economy and help maintain Georgia’s largest industry, agriculture.

Armond Morris, chairman of the Georgia Peanut Commission, is excited about the opportunity for GPC to work with banks and promote one of nature’s most nutritious products.

“This is the thirty-seventh year we have held a special salute to farmers in cooperation with financial institutions,” Morris said. “We have a great nutritional message to tell the consumer; eating peanuts is good for you!”

The Georgia Peanut Commission invites everyone to visit a participating bank in your area and support Georgia’s peanut industry, as well as the banking industry. Peanuts, recipe cards and other promotional material will be available during the week of Oct. 14-18 at participating financial institutions.
