Georgia Peanut Commission awards five recipe winners at the Georgia School Nutrition Association meeting

TIFTON, Ga.– The Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) awarded five Georgia School Nutrition members for developing new peanut and peanut butter recipes for the statewide Tasty Peanut Recipe Contest. The awards were presented April 20, 2012, at the Georgia School Nutrition Association Annual Meeting in Athens, Ga. Screven County peanut grower and Georgia Peanut Commission board member, Joe Boddiford, presented the awards.

“We are excited to present these awards to Georgia School Nutrition Association members who are developing new recipes using peanuts and peanut butter,” says Joe Boddiford, GPC’s Promotion Committee Chairman. “We commend all of the participants for striving to improve school nutrition by using peanuts and peanut butter which have numerous health benefits.”

Debra Ovaert, Lowndes County, received top honors in the breakfast category of the Tasty Peanut Recipe Contest with her recipe, “Banana Peanut Butter Bread.” Also, in the breakfast category Jane Raburn, Carrollton City, received second place with her recipe, “Peanut Butter Muffin” and Ann Hamner of Gwinnett County received third place with her recipe, “Peanut Butter and Cream Cheese Breakfast Pastry.” Ann Hamner of Gwinnett County took home top honors in the lunch category of the peanut contest with her recipe, “Gabon Peanut Soup.” Danielle Faircloth of Lowndes County received second place in the lunch category with her recipe, “Kick'n PB Sauce with Chicken.”

The entries were prepared and judged as part of the Georgia School Nutrition Association Culinary Competition on March 10, 2012, at Le Cordon Bleu School of Culinary Arts in Tucker, Ga.
The Georgia Peanut Commission presented these awards on behalf of Georgia’s 3,500 peanut farmers. For additional information on GPC visit
