TIFTON,
Georgia– The Bainbridge Post-Searchlight receives the
2008 Media Award from the Georgia Peanut Commission during
the 32nd annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show. The one-day show
on Jan. 17, 2008, offers farmers a full-day to view the products
and services of more than 65 exhibitors. Sam Griffin, Jr. is
publisher of the twice weekly newspaper which celebrated its
100th anniversary in 2007.
The Post-Searchlight is a locally owned, independent, paid circulation semi-weekly
community newspaper serving Bainbridge and Decatur County, Ga. The newspaper
was founded as a weekly newspaper by E.H. “Pat” Griffin in 1907 as
The Bainbridge Post. In 1915, he acquired the assets of The Searchlight, founded
in 1898 by Russell Brinson, and combined the two newspapers as The Post-Searchlight.
It has been a semi-weekly publication since 1974. It also incorporates the assets
of a number of earlier Decatur County newspapers, including The Weekly Tribune,
The Globe and The Democrat. The Post-Searchlight is published every Wednesday
and Saturday.
The Post-Searchlight has been very instrumental in dispensing vital peanut information
to the growers and the public in Decatur County and the surrounding Southwest
corner of Georgia. In 2007, the Georgia Peanut Tour was held in the Bainbridge,
Ga. area and the Post-Searchlight provided extensive coverage of the event.
