TIFTON,
Georgia– Dr. Yen-Con Hung, University of Georgia food
scientist, receives the 2008 Research and Education Award from
the Georgia Peanut Commission during the 32nd annual Georgia
Peanut Farm Show. The one-day show on Jan. 17, 2008, offers
farmers a full-day to view the products and services of more
than 65 exhibitors. Dr. Hung is professor and research/extension/instruction
coordinator for the University of Georgia Department of Food
Science and Technology.
Dr. Hung’s research is focused on applying the fundamentals of engineering
science to biological materials to ensure the high quality and safety of food
products and has published over 130 scientific referred Journal articles. Dr.
Hung has also been working to develop peanut-based products including a peanut-burger,
peanut pasta and peanut drink to increase demand on peanuts. He has also organized
the Hot Topics on Peanuts conference for the last five years as part of the annual
Georgia Peanut Tour pre-program.
Dr. Hung is President of the Chinese-American Academic and Professional Association
in the Southeastern United States and is active on the Scientific Program Subcommittee
of the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting Committee. His honors include
the Professional Achievement Award from the Chinese American Food Society, Gamma
Sigma Delta Senior Faculty Award from the University of Georgia, Academic Plaza
Award from the Japan Food Machinery Manufacturers Association and many more.
