TIFTON, Ga.—The Georgia Peanut Commission is sponsoring
Indy 500 racer Vitor Meira of Panther Racing. Meira, a 29-year-old
Brazilian native, will race his No. 4 Panther Honda at the 90th
Running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday with the Georgia peanuts
logo on his car.
“Georgia’s peanut farmers are excited about this promotion in which
Georgia peanuts are promoted nationally to consumers,” says Armond Morris,
chairman of the Georgia Peanut Commission. “We are also glad to send Georgia
peanuts for Meira and the Panther racing crew to snack on during the race.”
Meira will race in the sixth position at the Indy 500 race, which is a personal
best for Meira. The Indy 500 race will be televised nationally, and over 1 billion
viewers will be watching as Meira attempts to lead his Panther Racing team to
victory.
“We cannot wait until Sunday for the biggest race of the season. We hope
all the people in South Georgia will cheer Panther Racing to victory,” says
Mark Driscoll, co-owner of Panther Racing and Ocilla, Ga. native.
The Indianapolis 500 will be broadcast live on ABC at noon. Additional coverage
will also be provided by the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel
