TIFTON, Georgia— The Georgia Peanut Commission announces
Tim Burch of Baker County, as the new District One board member
elect for a three-year term. Burch defeated incumbent Jimmy Cheney
of Calhoun County, 162 to 110, after a 30-day balloting period,
which ended April 30. Burch will be sworn in during the commission’s
board meeting on May 11. The votes were counted by the Certified
Public Accounting Firm of Allen, Pritchett, and Bassett in Tifton,
Ga.
Burch farms 1,500 acres including 500 acres of peanuts. He also produces cotton
and raises beef cattle. He serves as alternate board member for Cotton Incorporated
and is a commissioner for Baker County. Burch has also served as a voting delegate
to National Cotton Council and is a graduate of the Syngenta Peanut Leadership
Program.
Burch will serve a three-year term beginning at the May board meeting of the
Georgia Peanut Commission. The Georgia Peanut Commission’s District 1 consists
of Baker, Calhoun, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, and Seminole
counties.
The Georgia Peanut Commission represents all peanut growers in the state of Georgia
and carries out programs in the areas of research, education and promotion. The
Georgia Peanut Commission Board of Directors represents Georgia’s 5,000
peanut farmers. Current members on the board include Commission Chairman Armond
Morris of Irwin County, District 2; Commission Vice Chairman Joe Boddiford of
Screven County, District 3; Commission Treasurer Rodney Dawson of Pulaski County,
District 4; and Donald Chase of Macon County, District 5.
