Peanut Butter Day celebrated in Nation’s Capitol

Released: March 13, 2006

TIFTON, Georgia— The Southern Peanut Farmers Federation announces Peanut Butter Day, which will be celebrated in our nation’s capitol, on Wednesday, March 15 at noon in room 902 of the Hart Senate Office Building. This celebration occurs in conjunction with the March celebration of National Peanut Month.

Peanut butter is one of America’s most treasured and healthiest foods, and it is consumed at a rate of 800 million pounds per year. The menu for the day’s event includes chicken satay, Chinese chicken salad, a variety of sandwiches including the classic peanut butter and jelly as well as, peanut butter and banana on honey whole wheat (Elvis’ favorite), and for dessert, peanut butter cheesecake squares, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter chocolate brownies and much more.

Come see Mr. Peanut throughout the event. He will be sure to remind you of the tremendous nutritional value of peanut butter through its high content of folic acid, protein, fiber, and vitamins B, C and E.

Members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives will be present to join in the celebration.
