Georgia Peanut Commission exhibits and sponsors recipe contest during Georgia National Fair

TIFTON, Georgia—The nutritious benefits of peanuts and their importance to Georgia’s economy are being showcased this week during the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Ga. The Georgia Peanut Commission is serving hot fried Georgia peanuts and distributing recipe brochures as well as nutritional information to the thousands of attendees.

“ The Georgia Peanut Commission is proud to be a part of the 16th annual Georgia National Fair. This is one promotion where we are able to showcase Georgia’s official state crop to thousands of adults and children,” says Armond Morris, chairman of the Georgia Peanut Commission.

Don Koehler, GPC’s executive director, and Joy Carter, GPC’s communication specialist, will also present a culinary demonstration on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. The demonstration will showcase to fairgoers how to prepare Fried Shrimp with Oriental Peanut Sauce, Oriental Pasta and Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies. The commission also sponsors the Georgia National Fair Peanut Recipe Contest which will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 p.m. There are two categories—sweet and un-sweet peanut dish with the first place winner receiving $75.

The 16th annual, state-sponsored Georgia National Fair is a celebration of Georgia’s youth, agriculture, and heritage with food, rides, vendors, free family entertainment, free circus, nightly fireworks, and major concerts. The fair has been designated a “Top 50 Fair in North America” by Amusement Business magazine. More information on the fair is available at www.georgianationalfair.com.
