Southern Peanut Growers Conference set for July

Released: June 21, 2005

TIFTON, Georgia— Mark your calendars for the 2005 Southern Peanut Growers Conference, July 17-19, at the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Fla. This year’s conference offers farmers an opportunity to learn more about legislation and trade issues, peanut research and promotions.

U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, is scheduled to speak during the first general session, “Peanuts and Politics.” While Sen. Chambliss is only in his third year in the Senate, he was unanimously elected by his colleagues to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry in January 2005.

In addition to the conference sessions the event focuses on the family by offering special programs for spouses and children. There will also be a golf tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

Farmers can register at the early registration rate of $125 until Friday, July 1. To receive a registration packet, contact the Georgia Peanut Commission, P.O. Box 967, Tifton, Ga. 31793. Information is also available by calling (229) 386-3470, emailing info@gapeanuts.com or downloading registration information from the Southern Peanut Farmers Federation web site at http://www.southernpeanutfarmers.org.
