Update - Credit is critical for farmers Peanut farmers approve
the Georgia Peanut Commission
Georgia peanut farmers reaffirmed the Georgia Peanut
Commission (GPC) by a vote of 87.6 percent during the recent
referendum, held March 15 through April 15. Georgia Peanut Commission
awards five recipe winners at the Georgia School Nutrition Association
meeting
The
Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) awarded five Georgia School
Nutrition members for developing new peanut
and peanut butter recipes for the statewide Tasty Peanut Recipe
Contest. The awards were presented April 20, 2012, at the Georgia
School Nutrition Association Annual Meeting in Athens, Ga.
Screven County peanut grower and Georgia Peanut Commission
board member, Joe Boddiford, presented the awards. Senator Chambliss leads
effort to protect southern farmers
U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., highlighted the importance of
2012 Farm Bill legislation reflecting agricultural interests in all regions of
the U.S. Senator Chambliss, a former Chairman and Ranking Member of the U.S.
Senate Agriculture Committee, worked with Senators Thad Cochran, R-Miss., and
John Boozman, R-Ark., in an effort to assure peanut, cotton and rice farmers
interests were represented in the farm bill debate.
Georgia Peanut
Commission approves $260,000 in new peanut research projects
The Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) board of directors
has approved $260,000 in new research project funding for its
2012-13 research budget. This action was taken during the Commission’s
March board meeting. The research projects approved include
22 project proposals from the 27 proposals submitted by the
University of Georgia and USDA-Agricultural Research Service. Georgia Peanut Commission breaks ground
for new building in Tifton, Ga. The Georgia Peanut
Commission (GPC) board of directors broke ground on Aug. 1 at the site for the
new headquarters of the Commission. The new headquarters will be a monument to
the peanut farmers of Georgia rather than an office building. The new headquarters
will be the first net-zero energy building for state government in Georgia. The
cost for the new building will be covered from the sale of the existing building,
energy grants, sponsorships and a commemorative brick program. Learn more at

Peanut Farm Show provides farmers a
day of education More
than 1,600 producers were able to fine-tune their farming
operations with information gained at the 36th
Annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show on Jan. 19, 2012, at the Albany
Civic Center in Albany, Ga. The show is sponsored by the Georgia
Peanut Commission in cooperation with the University of Georgia. View

annual Georgia Peanut Tour held in
Southwest Georgia
For many first time attendees on the 25th
annual Georgia Peanut Tour the event provided them with
an opportunity to actually walk through a peanut field
and see peanuts plowed up with a digger at harvest. The
tour kicked off last week and highlighted a cross section
of the peanut industry. The tour was held September 27-29,
2011, in the Southwest area of Georgia with stops in some
of the top ten peanut producing counties in Georgia including
Decatur, Seminole, Miller and Early counties. Click
