Weekly Market Price of Peanuts
March 2, 2010
      * $439.40 per ton for Runner peanuts
      * $435.11 per ton for Spanish peanuts
      * $443.26 per ton for Valencia peanuts
      * $443.26 per ton for Virginia peanuts

These prices become effective at 12:01 a.m., Eastern Time (ET), on Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2010, and are used to determine the alternative loan repayment rates for marketing assistance loans and to determine loan deficiency payments.

Georgia Peanut Farmer Appreciation Day at the Atlanta Motor Speedway March 7, 2010
The Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Georgia Peanut Commission have teamed up again this year to host the Georgia Peanut Farmer Appreciation Day at the Kobalt Tools 500 race on Sunday, March 7, 2010. The Georgia Peanut Commission will distribute peanuts in the vendor area and at all gates entering the race. Georgia Peanut Farm Show provides a day of education
Waters receives Outstanding Georgia Young Peanut Farmer Award
Producers were able to fine-tune their farming operations with information gained at the 34th Annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show on Jan. 21, 2010, at the Albany Civic Center in Albany, Ga. The show is sponsored by the Georgia Peanut Commission in cooperation with the University of Georgia.



Morris elected chairman of Board
Armond Morris, peanut farmer from Ocilla, Ga., was elected chairman of the Georgia Peanut Commission during the monthly board meeting in January. This is Morris’ ninth term as chairman of the commission. He has also served as chairman of the board previously in 1996 and 1997, 2003 and since 2005.
