Weekly Market Price of Peanuts
Feb. 1, 2012
      * $1,249.52 per ton for Runner peanuts
      * $1,240.87 per ton for Spanish peanuts
      * $1,253.26 per ton for Valencia peanuts
      * $1,253.26 per ton for Virginia peanuts

These prices become effective at 12:01 a.m., Eastern Time (ET), on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012,
and are used to determine the alternative loan repayment rates for marketing assistance loans and to determine loan deficiency payments.

Georgia Peanut Commission sets Research Report Day for February 8
The Georgia Peanut Commission will hold the annual Research Report Day, February 8, 2012, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory (NESPAL), located on the University of Georgia Tifton campus. The event provides growers and industry representatives an opportunity to hear the latest reports on research projects funded by GPC in 2011.  


Georgia Peanut Farm Show set for Jan. 19, 2012 in Albany, Ga.
Producers can fine-tune their farming operations with information gained at the 36th annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show, Jan. 19, 2012, at the Albany Civic Center in Albany, Ga. The one-day show offers farmers a full day to view the products and services of more than 70 exhibitors and a day of education.

Georgia Peanut Commission breaks ground for new building in Tifton, Ga.
The Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) board of directors broke ground on Aug. 1 at the site for the new headquarters of the Commission. The new headquarters will be a monument to the peanut farmers of Georgia rather than an office building. The new headquarters will be the first net-zero energy building for state government in Georgia. The cost for the new building will be covered from the sale of the existing building, energy grants, sponsorships and a commemorative brick program. Learn more at the following links:

Georgia Peanut Tour set for Sept. 27-29, 2011
The Georgia Peanut Tour is scheduled for Sept. 27-29, 2011 in the Bainbridge, Ga. area. The tour spotlights the southwest part of Georgia's peanut production area. The tour includes a cross section of field conditions, peanut harvest clinics, production research at the University of Georgia Attapulgus Research Farm, peanut handling and grading facilities and on-farm demonstrations.
