Tour provides an overview of peanut production from
the farm to processing

TIFTON, Ga.– The The twenty-sixth annual Georgia Peanut Tour will be held September
19-20, 2012, and centrally located out of Albany, Ga., at the Merry Acres Inn.
The tour brings the latest information on peanuts while providing a first-hand
view of industry infrastructure from production and handling to processing
and utilization. Tour stops will be made in several peanut producing counties
including Dougherty, Lee, Mitchell, Terrell, and Worth.
Attendees can expect to see first-hand nearly every aspect of peanut production
in the state. This year’s tour hosts many exciting stops including on-farm harvest
demonstrations and clinics, peanut processing facilities, and several special
highlights which include Birdsong Peanuts in Sylvester, Tara Foods, and Thrush
Aircraft both in Albany. Other stops will include JLA Global in Albany, Stripling
Irrigation Research Park and Plant Mitchell in Mitchell County, and the USDA/ARS
Bolton Research Farm near Dawson.
One special interest of the tour has always been the Early Bird “Hot Topics”
Seminar which will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. This year’s “Hot Topics”
Seminar, held at Merry Acres Inn, will include speakers providing an update on
the 2012 Georgia peanut crop and peanut policy and market updates. Additionally,
the seminar will provide a special focus on peanut disease management.
The Georgia Peanut Tour is coordinated by the Georgia Peanut Commission, the
University of Georgia- Griffin and Tifton Campuses, Southwest Research & Education
Center, Attapulgus Research & Education Center and the USDA/ARS National Peanut Research Lab. The Georgia
